Improve Service
Government should work for the people — not the other way around. Anyone who owns a car or a home, drives, gets married, travels internationally, and/or registers to vote is required to do business with the Clerk's Office. Everyone in Arapahoe County is affected by how efficiently, responsively and respectfully the office runs.
The residents of Arapahoe County deserve a much higher level of service than they are currently receiving.
Walk-in appointments
Walk-in appointments need to be available for those who cannot navigate online systems or cannot wait long periods of time for an appointment.
Phone calls answered
Friendly and helpful staff need to promptly answer phone calls for those who do not use the internet.
Online appointments
Those who prefer an online appointment system need to receive that service through a user-friendly website.
Life is busy and often complicated enough; interacting with government should not be frustrating.
Getting a marriage license in Arapahoe County can be an especially frustrating situation. The following screenshot from the Clerk's website shows no available appointments. A call confirmed that this wasn't some online glitch. The appointment system only allows appointments to be scheduled for two weeks in the future. If a person wants to set an appointment, they must be one of the first people to hop online at the beginning of the next business day and hope someone else did not take one of the limited spots before they can make their own appointment.
While it is true that Colorado counties do not issue driver's licenses (as that is a function of the state), many counties in our state have opted to serve their citizens by placing limited-service driver's license offices inside existing county DMV offices. Neighboring Douglas County has done this. Take note of the following two screenshots which were taken at the same time on February 26th. Residents of Centennial or Aurora have to use the Colorado State website to make an appointment to renew a license. The screenshots show the user would have had to wait a month for an appointment. Many people have complained that they had to wait six weeks. If a citizen of Douglas County set that same appointment through the Douglas County system, the wait was only three days.
As Arapahoe County Clerk, Annette Budd will make business with her office as simple, efficient, and stress-free as possible.
